John Lloyd Cruz confirms return with Lav Diaz's new movie
7 Feb – It is now confirmed that John Lloyd Cruz will be making his showbiz return through the new Lav Diaz movie, "Servando Magdamag".
As reported on ABS-CBN News, production studio Black Sheep recently shared a video about the said project, in which Diaz and screenwriter Ricky Lee spoke about how the project came to be.
Lee revealed that Diaz first read the story of "Servando Magdamag" that he wrote while the filmmaker was in the first year of college in Ateneo, and was interested in it despite others not understanding the story.
"It is really a difficult read, especially the depth of its Tagalog. But Lav never let go of the idea of turning it into a film from the time he took my workshop and wasn't a filmmaker yet, he wanted to do it," he added.
Lee also shared that even in the early stage, Diaz wanted John Lloyd Cruz to play the titular role - a man who comes from a family of Spanish hacienderos.
"It's all about the death of the Monzon family. It's a feudal family. Servando is at a crossroads. It's up to him to decide if the Monzon's history of violence ends with him," said Diaz, adding that the story is about a history of Filipino violence in the country.
No release date has been announced yet.
