John Cena is starring in a new video game movie

"Duke Nukem" is coming to life with John Cena portraying the titular character.

29 Mar – After "Tomb Raider", it seems like Hollywood is not giving up on the video game movie genre as another of its kind was recently announced with an actor already confirmed to star.

Pro wrestler-turned-actor John Cena is attached to portray Duke Nukem, from the popular '90s video game "Duke Nukem", as reported on Cinema Blend.

Producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, who are both in charge of the upcoming horror movie "A Quiet Place", revealed that they will be working on "Duke Nukem" next and cite 2016's "Deadpool" as a reference due to the almost similar personalities the two characters possess, only a little more sexist on Nukem's side.

"You know that having a misogynistic guy in today's world, how do you make that fun and lovable and at the same time he's got to be an incredible badass, so those are the things that we're struggling with and we're going to try and come out with what I hope is a really fun ride," they said, referring to Nukem's persona.

Furthermore, the two producers had approached Cena to join the project, which was later confirmed by Cena himself in an interview with Screen Rant.

"What a blessing to be attached to that, a name like that, and I just hope development does the franchise justice," he said.

The movie is still in its early stages with no director attached to bring the foul-mouthed character to life.

"Duke Nukem" is a video game first released in 1991 and spawned three sequels with "Duke Nukem Forever" being the latest entry in the main series.
