Johansson and Portman competing for "Dragon Tattoo" reboot

16 Mar – Hollywood actresses Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman are among the stars set to appear as Stieg Larsson's complicated computer hacker character in Sony Pictures' reboot of "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" franchise.
According to Variety magazine, both actresses who appeared in 2008 film, "The Other Boleyn Girl", are eyeing the role of the main character, Lisbeth Salander.
Scarlett Johansson had lost out to Rooney Mara for the role in the 2009 American adaptation.
The upcoming American film takes its titular name from the fourth novel in the Millennium book series written by David Lagercrantz. It will be the first film adaption not to be written by the series' creator Stieg Larsson.
Larsson had sadly passed away on 9 November 2004 before his three books were adapted to the popular Swedish films.
Even though it is a completely new story, "The Girl in the Spider's Web" is being called the reboot to David Fincher's 2009 American adaptation of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", which starred Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara and Stellan Skarsgard.
The director of 2016's breakout thriller "Don't Breathe", Fede Alvarez, will helm "The Girl in the Spider's Web" from a screenplay by Steven Knight and Alvarez and Jay Basu.
The production of the film will begin in September of this year, with a release date scheduled for 5 October 2018 in North America.
