Joe Tay believes TVB will turn into CCTV with Charles Chan gone
19 Dec – Joe Tay recently took to social media to express his sadness over rumours that Charles Chan will be resigning from his post as TVB Chairman.
As reported on Mingpao, the actor shared an article about Chan's supposed plan to leave the broadcasting company, and insinuated that the chairman's departure and the rise of vice chairman Li Ruigang would mean that TVB will bend the knee fully to the central government and become the next CCTV (referring to China's public broadcaster).
"The mission is completed. The work is done. "CCTVB" is officially set up. The success of Sir [Run Run] Shaw's vision and contribution to the people of Hong Kong is now relegated to [nothing]."
"Keep an eye on to the emergence of patriotic dramas of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, coming soon," he added.
Prior to succeeding Norman Leung as the chairman in 2014, Hong Kong businessman Charles Chan was the chairman of investment holding firm ITC Corp.
Speaking to the media about his post, Joe said that he grew up with TVB and related to its dramas as Sir Run Run Shaw understood the needs of the people. However, he believes that people can now only bask in the memory of the past glory days.
