JJ Lin picks Lee Wen's "Yellow Man" as artwork of choice
17 Sep - Singer-songwriter JJ Lin has recently been appointed the art ambassador of the National Gallery Singapore.
According to Xinhua News, on 16 September, the Taiwan-based star selected Lee Wen's piece, "Journey of a Yellow Man No. 11: Multi-culturalism", for the Gallery's My Masterpiece series, saying that it resonates will with his life as a travelling artiste who produces music for an international audience.
"As a Singaporean living in a foreign city, I often find myself having to work much harder to connect on the same level with the locals," said JJ.
He added that music has helped him express a part of his persona in different states of emotions, and that Lee's artwork, which features a yellow subject curled up in a tub filled with water, made him reflect about finding balance in this ever-changing modern society.
"The act of washing away the yellow paint reminds [me] to always go back to [my] roots, for self-realisation and growth."
"My Masterpiece Campaign" is part of the Gallery's initiatives to bring Singaporeans closer to their arts heritage. The campaign will continue to unveil significant artworks created by artists from Singapore and Southeast Asia personally chosen by its 12 art ambassadors, who will express their connection to their chosen piece.
Aside from JJ, other celebrities involved in the campaign include poet-academic Edwin Thumboo and MediaCorp actress Joanne Peh.
