We all have our favorite family recipes that we enjoy. From comfort foods that are inspired by our grandmothers to quick and easy five-ingredient casseroles that only dad can make, our family recipes are close to our hearts.

Celebrities have their own favorite family recipes, too, and lucky for us, some pretty funny stories that go along with them.

The Story Behind Jimmy Fallon’s Mom’s Cheesecake

On a recent episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Jimmy Fallon told a funny story about his mom’s cheesecake to actor and comedian Mike Birbiglia.

Fallon said “Bon Appétit” magazine reached out to him about a special Mother’s Day issue they were doing then, so he called his mother to see if she had any recipes he could share with the publication. According to the Tonight Show host, Fallon’s mother was ecstatic about this request.

“My god,” Fallon says, impersonating his mother with a high-pitched Brooklyn accent. “I’m going to be in Bon Appétit magazine. Oh, my god.”

Fallon said he got a call from his mother the next day, saying, “I got the recipe that I’m gonna give you,” a cheesecake recipe.

Fallon asked her to send it over, and his mother explained that “Daddy’s gonna type it,” which makes the host laugh as he imitates his father sitting at a computer jabbing the keyboard with his fingers and making caveman-like noises.

When Fallon received the typed recipe in his email, he sent it to Bon Appétit, who told him they would need to create the recipe to “make sure it’s good.” The next day, the editors called about the cheesecake to say how “fantastic it is” and said they would love to know if there was a story behind it.

When Fallon asked his mother, she was eager to get him more information about the recipe. He said his mother took a moment to find what she was looking for as she “puts the phone on the chair and I can hear her scuffling.” After Fallon heard her opening up the cupboard, the sound of paper ruffling on the other end, she told her son the story behind the recipe:

“Yeah, I got it from Bon Appétit magazine.” The audience burst out laughing as Fallon also chuckled with Birbiglia. He told his mom, “I’m hanging up, I’m hanging up. I’m hanging up the phone.”
