Jessie Li surprised at winning Best Actress
4 Apr - It was a great night, and a great year for newcomer Jessie Li, who slayed giants such as Karena Lam and Miriam Yeung to win Best Actress at the 35th Hong Kong Film Awards for her role in "Port of Call".
As reported on Mingpao News, the actress, who spoke in Mandarin on stage, expressed her excitement as she thanked the production for giving her a platform to showcase her talent.
""I want to thank you for this role. I see myself as a transparent glass and if not for this role, nobody would know who I am, and I would not have won an award. Thank you, Hong Kong movies, and thank you to the awards for the recognition," she added.
Other contenders for the Best Actress that night include Tang Wei ("A Tale of Three Cities") and Sylvia Chang (Office).
Although the result was surprising to Jessie, it was just a victory waiting to happen, after the string of awards she won both in Hong Kong and internationally.
The actress was previously named Best Actress at the 22nd Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards, the 19th Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival, and the 10th Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild of the Year Awards.
