SINGAPORE - Looking for something to do this month? Enjoy an outdoor jazz concert while surrounded by dogs and natural scenery, as the Jazz for Dogs fundraising event will be making its long-awaited return at the Singapore Botanic Gardens on 20 August.

The Action for Singapore Dogs Society (ASD) said in a media release that the musical concert will feature a local jazz lineup including renown singers Carol Gomez, Namie Rasman, Richard Jackson, Sinclair Ang and Siti Nur Iman.

Other local performers in the lineup include jazz-funk outfit The Raindogs, The Alina Ramirez Trio and Rachma Lim Quartet.

The last edition of Jazz For Dogs was held in 2019, with the event being halted during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was first held in 2017 and attracted over 1,800 people and some 300 dogs.

More resources and recognition for Singapore Specials

ASD has said that more resources and recognition still needs to be given to local cross-breed dogs, which are called Singapore Specials. Since 2012, these dogs have been successfully re-homed under ASD's Project ADORE, which allows HDB residents to own Singapore Specials.

The non-profit organisation has successfully re-homed 2,951 dogs and sterilised 668 dogs under its Trap-Neuter-Release-Manage (TNRM) programme, which manages Singapore's free-roaming dog population through sterilisation.

ASD was established in December 2000, and was set up to improve the welfare of stray and abandoned dogs in Singapore, by rescuing and rehoming them.

Jazz for Dogs 2023 will be held at the Botanic Gardens' Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage from 5pm to 7pm

Attendees can get a 'Picnic Pack for 2' worth $128. The pack includes wine, drinks, sandwiches, sweet and savoury finger food, a “Jazz for Dogs” picnic mat and a bandana for dogs. Human-grade cooked meals for dogs by Furry's Kitchen can also be ordered at the price of $10 per portion.
