Jay Chou lands role in major Hollywood franchise

The Taiwanese star will be working with Vin Diesel in the franchise's fourth movie

Jay Chou's last Hollywood appearance was in 2016's "Now You See Me 2".

21 Nov – Taiwanese star Jay Chou has landed yet another Hollywood role, this time putting him alongside action star Vin Diesel.

While his specific role was not revealed, Variety reported that Chou is now part of the cast of the fourth "xXx" movie.

The 39-year-old multihyphenate joins the aforementioned Vin Diesel, who starred as main character Xander Cage in two previous "xXx" movies, and newly-added Chinese actress Zoe Zhang – fans would remember her from Jackie Chan's "Skiptrace" and "Railroad Tigers".

This marks the third Hollywood movie for Chou, who began his acting career with 2005's "Initial D" and debuted in Hollywood in 2011 as one of the leads in "The Green Hornet".

He made his second Hollywood appearance in 2016's "Now You See Me 2".

The fourth movie in the "xXx" franchise will have D.J. Caruso returning to direct for the H Collective. He also helmed last year's "xXx: Return of Xander Cage", which saw Vin Diesel reprising his Xander Cage role – a role he debuted as in 2002's "xXx" – after not returning for the 2005 sequel "xXx: State of the Union".

Last year's "xXx" instalment also had a couple of Chinese actors featured in it, namely martial arts star Donnie Yen and singer-actor Kris Wu. Other Asian stars included in the cast were Thailand's Tony Jaa and Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone.

No updates for now on whether any of them will be back for the fourth "xXx" movie, which is slated to begin production in 2019.
