James Corden shares Gavin & Stacey filming update
Gavin & Stacey star James Corden has revealed that filming on the 2024 Christmas special will begin soon.
A festive episode set to air this year was confirmed by Corden and co-creator Ruth Jones in May after months of rumours.
Appearing on Zoe Ball's BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show this morning, the Smithy actor shared an exciting update on when the Gavin & Stacey cast will be coming together to film the special.
"We'll be shooting it around September/October time," he said. "It's going to be tight to get it in and delivered."
"Building that show is like building a Jenga puzzle," he continued. "Cast availabilities and things like that, but I think it will be okay. Ruth and I, we have to do one last pass and clean up of it [the script] really, because the cast are like, 'When can I read it?' And we're like, 'Ahhh'.
He explained: "We don't really want to give it to anybody unless we feel like it's... So we have to make a few more trims and a few little adjustments. But I'm very excited to share it with people."
Official cast confirmation for the Christmas special is yet to be shared, but star Alison Steadman revealed she would be returning to reprise her role of Pamela 'Pam' Shipman alongside EastEnders actor Larry Lamb, who plays her husband Michael 'Mick' Shipman.
After the Christmas special announcement, Joanna Page also confirmed she would be returning to play Stacey, with Mathew Horne expected to be back as Gavin.
The BBC comedy was last on screens in 2019 with a Christmas special that ended with a cliffhanger proposal. Nessa got down on one knee to Smithy in the final moments, with the episode ending without an answer to the question.
It's hoped that fans will finally learn the characters' fate in the 2024 special, which will air Christmas Day this year.
