Jake Gyllenhaal to play Pablo Escobar's accomplice for Antoine Fuqua

After donning boxing gloves in the title role of "Southpaw," the actor will re-team with director Antoine Fuqua to work on "The Man Who Made It Snow," Deadline reveals.

The feature will be adapted from Max Mermelstein's autobiographical book of the same name, which tells how the author, a Jewish engineer from Brooklyn, helped to transform Pablo Escobar's Medellín Cartel into a billion-dollar drug-trafficking enterprise during the early 1980s. Eventually, Mermelstein surrendered to federal agents and became a key government witness.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Antoine Fuqua are attached to produce the project, which is due to begin lensing next year, according to Deadline. The actor and director worked together in early 2014 on "Southpaw," which is currently in post-production.

Gyllenhaal is currently in theaters as the star of the drama "Nightcrawler." Fuqua's latest feature, "The Equalizer," starring Denzel Washington, opened in September.
