Invitation: Levi’s is celebrating its 150th anniversary at a Levi's 501 pop-up event
Denim lovers can participate in workshops, and customisation services, enjoy performances by homegrown DJs, and bring home freebies.
During my teenage years, I coveted a pair of Levi's. Not just any Levi’s model, but denim featuring the signature button-fly. Why? Just because they are oh-so unique to Levi's and the denim culture. And because Levi’s is the OG of all denim brands, that was the only brand I needed, okay, wanted. I eventually inherited a pair of Levi's from a cousin and was over the moon. The denim proved its durability even after a few years of wearing it. I would probably still be proudly donning it if not for the fact that I have physically outgrown the jeans. But it is not just me who discovered the durability of Levi's. Some time back, Levi’s restored a pair of jeans found near a mining town in Nevada. TL;DR, Levi’s first gained popularity during the gold mining period in California in 1873; interestingly, the original Levi’s 501 came with buttons for suspenders and a button fly. And did you know that the ubiquitous zipper jeans only came into being in 1954 for Levi’s with the 501Z, the first 501 jeans with a zipper? Fast forward to 2023, and we have Korean girl band New Jeans fronting Levi's campaign. What else to look out for
On 20 May, Levi's Vintage Clothing will launch its 1873 XX Waist Overalls. Levi's® Historian Tracey Panek and the Levi's® Vintage Clothing design team took pieces from the Levi's® Archives and historical artefacts from the time to reconstruct the first blue jeans, resulting in its first accurate recreation.
The 1873 XX Overalls launches worldwide on 20 May 2023. Limited quantities will retail exclusively at Levi's® ION Orchard, B2-23.
