I tried the new Laneige Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask that Sydney Sweeney loves. Here’s my review

Here's a reason to sleep more. Does the new Laneige Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask with Sydney Sweeney as the ambassador work as it claims? Let's find out!

I remember Laneige as one of the first Korean brands that successfully carved a name in Singapore’s beauty market and made this part of the world sit up and pay attention to other Korean brands that started launching in Southeast Asia. ALL my friends were raving over Laneige products, and how hydrating they were. At that time, it was faced by the luminous South Korean actress Song Hye-kyo whose dewy and bouncy skin was the dream of all girls. Some of the standout Laneige products were the ultra-hydrating water bank range, the dewy and super convenient cushion compact, and soothing lip masks. The brand has come a long way since and now, even Hollywood star Sydney Sweeney is in on its efficacy!

Laneige’s new global ambassador, Sydney Sweeney, is the face of the new and revolutionary Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask. Sleep care, an elusive notion to many in Singapore, is a category that Laneige kickstarted back in 2002 with the launch of the Water Sleeping Mask. The new Mask joins the best-selling Water Sleeping Mask (one sold every 12s worldwide*) and Cica Sleeping Mask in positioning the brand as “The Sleep Care Experts” and leaders in clinically-proven sleeping masks for bouncy skin, barrier-boosting hydration, and more.

According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) and Sleep Research Society (SRS), the hours of sleep needed for optimal health is seven per night. Unsurprisingly, 54% of the nation is regularly functioning on less sleep than the seven hours we need.

In comparison to other regions included in the poll, Singaporeans have once again, claimed the No. 1 title as the most sleep-deprived. Of all the countries measured, 81% of Singaporeans resort to sleep hacks in a bid to improve their sleep quality. From upgrading our mattresses to bedding to attempting Tik-Tok-inspired measures, here’s one more hack for you – Sydney Sweeney’s current favourite, the Laneige Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask.

Away with wrinkles and expression lines

Infused with Laneige's exclusive Sleepscent and the delightful floral essence of Peony Bouquet, Sydney Sweeney is blown away by the product’s innovative formula featuring Peony & Collagen Complex and Probiotic Lysate, meant to provide bouncier, plumper, and even reduce excess puffiness during sleep.

If you know or heard of people who play down their facial expressions in an attempt to reduce facial wrinkles such as laugh lines and crow’s feet, this is the product for them! Much like how a balloon relies on air to maintain its bounce, your skin needs support to recover from facial expressions such as smiling, frowning, and laughing. Supercharged with Peony & Collagen Complex and Peptides, the Laneige Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask is supposed to boost and preserve collagen, revitalise and visibly firm the complexion, creating an overnight moisturising glow barrier, bringing radiance to tired, lifeless skin.

What the Laneige Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask does

Let's talk about that glow! The mask's sorbet-like texture is packed with 45,000 Hydro-Melt Glow Capsules that swiftly absorb into your skin, creating a protective moisture barrier and nourishing your skin overnight for a noticeable increase in skin radiance. Plus, it's clinically proven to upgrade skin texture and moisture levels after just one night*— 96% of users even felt softer, more bouncy skin after 4 weeks**.

*Based on an 8-week clinical study on 30 women ages 19-49, used daily.

**Based on the self-assessment portion of a 4-week study on 30 women (with self-perceived sensitive skin,) ages 20-40, used daily.

The Peony & Collagen Complex and Peptides provide dual action support to help boost & preserve collagen. The result? Visibly plumper, firmer skin that keeps its bounce on top of a stronger moisture barrier.

Of course, not one to rely only on marketing speak, I tried the Laneige Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask for a week, and here's my take on the new product.

First impression

Out of the three sleeping masks: the Water Sleeping Mask (blue packaging), the Cica Sleeping Mask (green), and the new Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask, I was immediately drawn to the soft pink packaging. It's so pretty and I can imagine this beauty product sitting proudly on my vanity tray.

How to use Laneige's sleeping mask

To be used daily, the Laneige Sleeping Masks are meant to complement your skincare routine and as the final step, after your moisturiser.

One of the biggest plus points of the Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask is its sorbet-like texture. It feels incredibly light and was easily absorbed onto my skin. PHOTO: Laneige

Smell and texture

In terms of smell, I also much prefer the light, lingering floral scent of the Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask which contains peony (a top favourite ingredient of mine). The Sleeping Mask comes with a handy spatula for hygiene purposes.

One of the biggest plus points of the Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask is its sorbet-like texture. It feels incredibly light and was easily absorbed onto my skin. Word of caution, apply the mask only when your moisturiser has been absorbed by your skin. This vital step ensures your skin absorbs all the skin-loving goodness of its previous layers of products before allowing the mask to do its work.

How it performs

Having tried other sleeping masks before, I like the texture and absorption of the new Laneige Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask. The mask was extremely easy to apply and it egged me to perform a simple 1-minute knuckle massage because the mask felt so soft on my skin and smooth enough to move my fingers around without tugging the skin. Check out the simple steps in the image below.

Best of all, the mask does not transfer onto my pillow and bedding.

Overtime, as my skin becomes increasingly dehydrated, I sometimes wake up finding my skin calling out for hydration, especially after a night in the airconditioned room. Whenever I use the Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask, I wake up to no skin tightness, just all-round comfort. While the brand claims to reduce puffiness, I'm just going to put it out here that no magical potion can save us from puffiness if we choose to live an excessive lifestyle.

For example, having a late-night snack packed with salt or heavy drinking do not guarantee a less puffy face even when you religiously apply the sleeping mask the night before. Well, I know it first-hand because I've been there! As for other claims by the brand promising to take away wrinkles, I am eagerly awaiting the results with prolonged usage of the product.

Size and price

The mask comes in a round plastic bottle that looks like glass. Which means, classy looking but no worries if we happen to drop it. At 60ml, the Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask is priced at S$56. As with most Korean products, its affordability belies its efficacy.

What could be better

There was no place to house the spatula that comes with the mask. Perhaps the manufacturers can consider adding a nifty little ring around the circumference of the bottle to hold the spatula or come up with an ingenious idea to place the spatula on the lid. Otherwise, leaving the spatula on the top of the bottle could be another solution.

Travels, don't we all love it? But when it comes to abiding by a strict beauty regimen during our travels, we tend to come up short. Good news! The Laneige Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask comes in a 25ml size that is exclusively available at Sephora. For those who would like to distinguish between the three variants plus the Lip Sleeping Mask EX, let me break it down for you.

The 4 Sleeping Masks

The Laneige Water Sleeping Mask, 70ml, is meant to provide intense moisture thanks to my favourite ingredient, squalane (read why I love it here!). It is supposed to boost the skin's brightness and clarity. It comes in the form of a gel.
