Hua Yi Kitchen silently shifts to Joo Chiat, with more Fujian tze char dishes from 19 May 2023

Known as an extremely underrated Chinese eatery, Hua Yi Kitchen has moved to Joo Chiat from its previous location at International Building. They just had their grand opening as of 19 May 2023, and are now open for business in the heart of Katong.

Heading down to check out the eatery, I happened to chat with extremely friendly Ronnie, one of Hua Yi Kitchen’s shareholders. And because of that, this article holds factual information shared by the restaurant’s management itself. No fake news here!

As there is currently no news from Hua Yi Kitchen’s social media pages, I can imagine many folks are shocked. According to Ronnie, the reason behind the move is due to the inadequate space at their joint in Orchard.

The queue snaking out of Hua Yi Kitchen back in International Plaza was a common sight, with the tze char eatery being often full-house. As such, Hua Yi Kitchen made the decision to buy out and renovate a spot at Joo Chiat as their new premises.

Now, at this snazzy new Hua Yi Restaurant at Joo Chiat, bigger crowds can fit. There’s a 50-60 seating capacity in comparison to the measly 20-30 previously. Talk about a major upgrade!

That wasn’t the only improvement made. The restaurant has also employed more staff. With 3 chefs, the kitchen will be able to keep up with the influx of orders, so not to worry!

This tze char spot has also expanded their menu to include premium seafood like crab, prawn and fish. Their Stir-fried Tiger Prawn with Tie Guan Yin Tea (S$23.90 for small, S$35 for large) is bound to be fantastic with rice. Just imagining that succulent prawn flesh is making me salivate.

As a resident of the Katong vicinity, I’ll definitely drop by for their Fujian cuisine real soon. Perhaps, after a hearty meal here, I will stop by Kings Cart for a sweet treat.
