Hong Kong producer Jimmy Heung passed away

24 Nov – Hong Kong filmmaker Jimmy Heung has passed away in Beijing on 20 November after struggling with oesophageal cancer, according to China Daily News.

Jimmy, who formed Win's Entertainment Ltd. with brother, Charles Heung, had worked with various top stars such as Stephen Chow, Andy Lau, Chow Yun Fat, and many more back in the '80s and early '90s. Among the movies he produced and/or directed include the "Fight Back to School" trilogy, and the "God of Gamblers" series.

However, the film producer and director slowly left the film industry and moved to mainland to focus on his business in the late '90s.

In May this year, Jimmy was diagnosed with late stage oesophageal cancer after complaining discomfort in his throat. The filmmaker, however, refused to undergo chemotherapy and sought a cure in other ways. However, his condition started to worsen in September, and he was hospitalised ever since.

Hong Kong stars recently expressed their grief about the loss.

Veteran actor Law Kar Ying wrote, "I was fortunate enough to work with him in "Adventure of the King". We got along very well. He always looked alive when talking about movies. Today I found out that he has passed, and it's inevitable for me to feel regret."

Andy Lau also expressed his sadness over his death, and praised the filmmaker for his creative mind.

"He made a variety of genres, from drama, comedy, biography, and many more. He was absolutely a great contributor to the film industry," said Andy.

Meanwhile, it was revealed that second wife Duanmu Yingzi will be returning to Hong Kong to make arrangements for Jimmy's funeral and memorial.

Jimmy Heung was 64.
