Haruma Miura’s new single to be released posthumously; reason for his suicide remains unknown
According to Japanese music label A-Sketch, the late actor-singer Haruma Miura’s new single, Night Diver, will be released posthumously on 26 August, as per the original plan.
A-Sketch wrote on their website, “We have decided that the most important thing is to not erase the soul of the produced music and release the single as per the schedule. We hope that by sending Haruma Miura’s work out to the world, his soul can continue to shine in everyone’s hearts.”
On Friday (24 July), Miura’s Night Diver music video premiered on Japanese live music TV programme Music Station, which he was supposed to attend for the first time. The music video was subsequently uploaded to YouTube and has since garnered 10 million views.
Although Night Diver was not written by Miura, a look at the lyrics of the chorus may make you wonder if it reflected a little of the thoughts going through his head:
The words that nobody knew are in me now
Swirling around non-stop like a loop
Even if I want to spit it out, my voice is not coming out
Miura, best known for the Attack On Titan films, was found dead by hanging in his Tokyo home on 18 July. The sudden news of his death shocked many, including fans worldwide and celebrities.
Although the reason behind Miura’s suicide is unknown, reports speculate that it was due to work stress and personal problems.
The 30-year-old was not only an actor full of potential — having acted since the age of seven and starred in multiple popular dramas and films like Bloody Monday, Sky Of Love and Attack On Titan — he also debuted as a singer last year with a single titled Fight For Your Heart.
Miura’s second single, to be released next month, will contain a total of three songs: Night Diver, ONE, You & I. The lyrics and melody of You & I were written and composed by the singer himself.
Part of the proceeds from the sale of the single will be donated to Lao Friends Hospital for Children. The donation will go through certified non-profit organisation Friends Without A Border Japan, which has been supporting the charity event Act Against AIDS that Miura contributed to every year.
