Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny marks Harrison Ford's final Indiana Jones movie after playing the character for more than 40 years.

You'd be forgiven for thinking that knowledge would make the final day of filming an emotional day. However, talking to Digital Spy, Ford has revealed that he felt something different when he hung up his fedora and whip.

"The feeling I had is the feeling you have when you've made something, and you can look at it, or you can remember having made it, [and having] the satisfaction of putting work in, and getting something worthy out of it," he recalled.

"I felt a sense of peace, a sense of contentment, that this particular job that [James Mangold] and I and all the other people involved had done together, was concluded in a way that really felt satisfying to me. It is my hope that others find it as satisfying as I did."

This final outing has certainly been a long time coming for Indiana Jones fans, with it finally arriving in cinemas more than 15 years after Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Ford explained that another movie wasn't immediately on the horizon when they finished Crystal Skull, and it was more of a case of waiting for the right idea for Indy's final adventure.

"There were some interesting ideas that were floated, but they didn't quite gel over a period of time. And then we found an idea, and a script, and a strong story that we wanted to tell. I'm very happy with the story that we're telling," he continued.

"We're coming to the end of Indiana Jones's time on the planet, and I wanted to see a conclusion of his story that accommodated the reality of his age, and what that effect has on this person that we've come to know over the years."

Sounds like we better get ready for an emotional final ride.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is released in UK cinemas on 28 June.
