Hai Kee Teochew Cha Kuay Teow known for 2 hr queues, closed temporarily
Like many, I often get a bit disheartened by the news of a closure, especially one that is a crowd favourite. In a recent circulating Facebook post, it was announced that Hai Kee Teochew Cha Kuay Teow in Telok Blangah Crescent Food Centre, would be closed temporarily until further notice.
Run by Uncle Low, this renowned stall has become a local favourite amongst many despite its short daily opening time just of 4 hours. Uncle’s dish has become so popular that it is said by some to be one of the best char kway teow stalls in Singapore.
Many fans declare that they don’t mind having to wait over 2 hours just to savour Uncle Low’s generous servings of char kway teow!
My colleague visited the popular stall last year and he was left amazed with the hard graft of Uncle Low. Nowadays, whether it’s a hokkien mee stall, or char kway teow stall, 9 times out of 10, the noodles are cooked in big batches to save time and effort. But this wasn’t the case with Uncle Low.
Every individual plate is made from scratch, with each order of char kway teow fried individually, even if you order several plates at once! These days, it is very rare to see such love and passion in one’s cooking. I can see why it is many people’s go-to place for a char kway teow fix.
Although it is still not known why the stall has temporarily closed its doors, do keep your eyes peeled on Hai Kee Teochew Cha Kuay Teow’s Facebook group for more updates.
