Getting to Florida From New England Is About to Get a Lot Easier Thanks to This Budget Airline
The new flights start this winter
Major low-cost competitors Breeze Airways and Avelo Airlines are going head-to-head at New Haven’s regional airport in Connecticut.
Breeze just added Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) to its route map, where it will launch nearly a dozen flights along the East Coast. All of the new flights will begin this winter and can be booked directly on Breeze’s website or app:
Fort Myers (RSW): Operating 4x weekly starting on Dec. 10
Orlando (MCO): Operating daily starting on Feb. 5, 2025
West Palm Beach (PBI): Operating 5x weekly starting on Dec. 11
Vero Beach (VRB): Operating twice weekly starting on Dec. 13
Charleston (CHS): Operating 4x weekly starting Feb. 6, 2025
Jacksonville (JAX): Operating twice weekly starting on Feb. 6, 2025
Norfolk (ORF): Operating twice weekly starting on Feb. 6, 2025
Richmond (RIC): Operating twice weekly starting on Feb. 6, 2025
Raleigh-Durham (RDU): Operating twice weekly starting on Feb. 7, 2025

New Orleans (MSY): Operating twice weekly, starting Feb. 6, 2025, on a one-stop BreezeThru service
Breeze and Avelo both launched during the pandemic with a similar mission: connecting smaller airports to popular destinations at an affordable price. Avelo has been especially successful at its main operating base in New Haven, where it has been the sole carrier serving the airport for nearly three years. More than half of Breeze’s flights overlap with Avelo’s routes, and this direct competition should drive prices even lower.
This isn’t the first time Breeze and Avelo have competed over route expansions. In July, Avelo launched service from Bradley International Airport in Hartford, one of Breeze’s key operating bases. Breeze operates an all-new Airbus A220 fleet featuring domestic first-class recliner seats, while Avelo's fleet consists of Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft with economy seating throughout the cabin.
“From ‘Day One’ our playbook has included significant growth across the Northeast region of the U.S. due to the high population density and limited nonstop travel options,” said Breeze’s chief commercial officer, Lukas Johnson, in a statement shared with T+L. “As a result, our unique model of air service has been a game-changer for this area of the country, giving residents affordable flights from convenient airports such as Hartford, Westchester County, Providence, Stewart-Newburgh, and now, New Haven, just to name a few.”
