George Clooney and Daniel Craig Bring the Heat in Two Formal Red Carpet Looks in N.Y.C.

The stars were out for a black-tie affair in the Big Apple on Thursday night.

A-list stars including Kate Moss to Matt Damon ascended the steps of The New York Public Library to attend the Clooney Foundation for Justice’s 2023 Albie Awards. As you’d imagine, Clooney showed up to the event in a sharp black tux with his wife Amal Clooney in tow—which caused a stir upon arrival. While a host of other entertainers attended the event as well, only one other leading man’s ensemble caught our eye, you may know him as “James Bond.”

Trailing the red carpet with wife and actress Rachel Weisz, Daniel Craig wore a bespoke midnight-blue tuxedo by Savile Row tailor Anderson and Sheppard. He paired the double-breasted suit with Crockett and Jones dress shoes, as well as a navy bowtie and aviator glasses for a modern touch. The look harkened back to a time when midnight blue, not black, was the default for men’s evening wear. It’s exactly what a retired 007 might wear to a cocktail event—which was probably the point.

And while Clooney opted for a more modern black tuxedo, his look wasn’t entirely as dark and stormy as the weather in N.Y.C. either, thanks to the steel Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra watch on his wrist. The Oscar-winning actor was spotted wearing the discontinued watch, which has a sunray finished and lacquered blue dial, just last month in Venice, getting off a yacht with Amal before they went on a casual stroll around the Floating City. As a longtime ambassador for the Swiss watchmaker, it only makes sense that he’d sport the piece on special occasions, too. Set in 41.5 mm case, the chronometer timepiece is powered by Omega’s Master Co-Axial caliber 8500. Seen through its transparent caseback, the automatic movement provides Clooney with a 60-hour power reserve.

Named after Justice Albie Sachs, a South African lawyer and activist who worked to end apartheid in his home country, “The Albies” are meant to honor individuals who take a stand for justice through their work. The gala and awards ceremony were founded by George and Amal Clooney; Tuesday’s edition, the second time the event has been hosted, was hosted in partnership with Versace. “We firmly believe that it takes a community of allies to succeed in waging justice to protect human rights,” the Clooneys told Harper’s Bazaar. “Versace’s commitment to equality, including its active support for LGBTQ+ rights, inspires us to keep fighting the good fight.”

Other notable guests who attended the event include fashion designer Donatella Versace, Cindy Crawford, Viola Davis, Kate Moss, and Colman Domingo.
