You might recognise Fred Sirieix as the host on Channel 4's television series First Dates, but the much loved maître d’ has just announced the launch of his first-ever wine, a Beaujolais Nouveau 2022.

The wine connoisseur, who became the official wine ambassador for M&S in 2020, used his 30+ years' experience to select this special red wine, which is exclusive to M&S for a limited period.

Fred said: “Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivé! I’m very excited to have chosen this year’s sensational Beaujolais Nouveau blend for M&S, guaranteed to be the perfect party drink this season. It’s a brilliant wine to have on hand when family and friends come to visit, and an absolute must-have to accompany festive nibbles. This is an incredibly special time of year because you can only get your hands on this French classic for a limited time after its release this week, so be quick!”

Beaujolais Nouveau wines are typically light and fruity in flavour, and this one sounds like it's bursting with notes of juicy cherries and strawberries. If you haven't heard of a Beaujolais Nouveau wine before, it's a Gamay grape-based wine that is produced just after the grape has been harvested, with a very quick turnaround, resulting in a young, and fresh wine.

Beaujolais Nouveau is the first wine of the new season and is officially released in France on ‘Beaujolais Day’ – the third Thursday in November – with fireworks, music and festivals. Under French law the wine cannot be released any earlier than 00:01am on that Thursday.

The fruity red wine is very reasonably-priced at only £8 a bottle and we'll be stocking up so we can enjoy this refreshing wine, which is best served slightly chilled. Fred recommends pairing it with a range of different food options such as charcuterie or pâté, and apparently it's perfect with poultry dishes, too.
