Fraser Residence Riverside Promenade review: Quiet luxury and living

Zouk at Jiak Kim Street is now Fraser Residence Riverside Promenade. We stayed two nights and took a walk down memory lane.

We were invited for a 3D2N stay to experience the property, but opinions are our own.

Does the mention of 'Jiak Kim Street', 'Mambo Nights', 'members area', or 'pre-drinks bridge' evoke a wave of nostalgia? If you hail from the era when Jiak Kim Street was synonymous with Zouk, you might have wondered about the fate of the space after Zouk relocated to its current spot at Clarke Quay.

Embarking on a journey down memory lane, we explored the space that once housed Zouk, now transformed into Fraser Residence River Promenade, a new serviced apartment by Fraser Hospitality. Two of the three heritage warehouses that once hosted countless clubbing memories (and a bit of debauchery) now shine as the sparkling new reception, lobby, and event space of this 72-room property. The third warehouse, once the entrance to the club and home to Velvet Underground, now boasts Jiak Kim House, a modern Asian cuisine restaurant.

A stay at Fraser Residence River Promenade allowed us to relive the golden days while embracing the fresh vibes of the locale. With a minimum stay of six nights, starting from S$271 per night, here is what awaits you in the Studio Premier at Fraser Residence River Promenade.

First impressions of Fraser Residence River Promenade

As you step into the property's reception area, you'll be struck by the vastness of the space.

Beyond the reception, you can almost pinpoint where the main Zouk dancefloor, washrooms, and members' area once stood—all replaced by a single-level space showcasing the full height of the warehouse. Aptly named 'The Living Room,' this area serves as the property's reception, co-working space, and executive lounge, offering complimentary breakfast, drinks, light bites, and evening cocktails.

Check-in is efficient and welcoming, reflecting the property's focus on serviced residence comfort rather than flashy hotel amenities.

The quiet luxury of a well-designed room

With six room types to choose from, I was hosted at the Studio Premier, which overlooks the Singapore River. Upon entering, I was greeted by a brightly lit room with floor-to-ceiling windows, a kitchenette, and a spacious workspace cleverly concealed behind the king-sized bed. The room felt perfect for either a solo traveller or a couple.

Thoughtful touches in the form of a wireless charging port beside the bed, a coffee machine on the workstation, an air purifier near the sofa area, and the ability to control the entire room from switches beside the bed helped make the cosy space very livable for long stays.

A fully equipped kitchenette with luxurious bedding and modern amenities complete the experience.

In fact, the list of in-room amenities is very extensive, featuring highlights from brand-named household appliances such as a Dyson, Sterra, Bang & Olufsen, Alexa and more.

  • Smart technology including wireless chargers, bedside lighting, and curtain control panels

  • Modern, fully equipped kitchenette with a combination oven

  • In-room premium filtered water system

  • Bespoke speciality coffee machine with barista-designed controls from Singaporean coffee tech startup, 'Morning,' and a gooseneck kettle

  • Complimentary selection of coffee capsules from 'Morning' and exclusive tea blends curated by Singaporean luxury teahouse TWG

  • A Sterra air purifier

  • 55" Samsung TV and Bang & Olufsen Bluetooth Speaker with Alexa Assistant

  • Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer, rain shower and bidet seats, lightweight Yukata Bathrobe, and bath amenities from luxury cult brand 19-69

  • In-unit washer/dryer

  • In-unit safe

  • High-speed Wi-Fi

A lifestyle choice that would be hard to top

Even though I was only there for a short two nights, I quickly fell into the rhythm of the locale and an elevated quality of life – be it having breakfast at The Living Room in the morning, getting work done in the same place or in the room, doing leisurely walks to the nearby Robertson Quay, having friends over the apartment to chill, walking to the nearby Great World City or Zion Hawker Centre to have my meals and more.

With only 72 rooms and plenty of long-stay residents, you're also bound to expect a certain level of intimacy regarding the staff. I get the sense from how staff interact with guests that

Pets are welcome in the room, though guests are responsible for any damage caused. Additionally, guests enjoy complimentary access to The Living Room, including breakfast, local snacks, a selection of beverages, and evening cocktails.

To top it all off, the apartment's prime location offers easy access to the city's vibrant attractions and business districts, making it an ideal choice for both leisure and corporate travellers. Whether guests want to immerse themselves in the local culture, indulge in culinary delights, or simply relax and unwind, this apartment serves as the perfect base to explore all the city has to offer.

In essence, this apartment represents the perfect marriage of luxury and functionality, offering guests the best of both worlds. Whether guests stay for a short business trip or an extended vacation, they will find everything they need to feel right at home.
