Former TVB actress Esther Wan passed away

24 May – Hong Kong actress Esther Wan has recently passed away.

As reported on Mingpao, the actress, who had worked at TVB for 23 years before departing in 2021, breathed her last after a long battle with breast cancer.

It is noted that Esther suffered from breast cancer in 2005 and was in remission after a slew of treatments including a mastectomy surgery.

Although she shared in an interview in 2020 that she was in good health and no longer needed medication, her condition reportedly got worse soon after. Esther also rarely appeared in public after leaving TVB, and was last seen in April at an event with friends, looking much thinner and wearing a headcover.

On the other hand, when asked about the news, good friend Meg Lam stated that she was informed of Esther's death and knew that she had been in and out of hospital in recent months.

"Esther and I often played badminton together. She was a strong person and a cancer fighter," Meg said.

Esther's last TVB drama was the 2021's "Story of Zom-B". While she never played lead roles, Esther had starred in various TVB dramas including "Big White Duel", "Raising the Bar", and "Criminal Investigation Files III".

She was 54.
