Good Threads makes a lifestyle and fashion statement with a difference
Do you give any thought when planning your OOTDs?
Good Threads, an extension of Mandai Wildlife Group’s ‘Choose Good with Mandai’ campaign, raises awareness about nature and wildlife protection by making conscious choices on a daily basis. The first of three, the Good Threads capsule of elevated ‘performance wear’ was launched on 15 February. Think urban jungle wear that incorporates functionality – pants with additional pockets and detachable bags to store trash for recycling later, shorts with a detachable reusable tote bag, a bucket hat that performs the dual function as a sling bag, shirts with storage compartments for holding reusable cutlery, a water bottle and more.
The artistic talents of Hakim Samat, a local craftsman known for his stylish, upcycled creations is the brains behind this collaboration. Good Threads was crafted from 1,158 pieces of pre-loved clothing and salvaged materials weighing approximately 108kg from local thrift shops – honsieponsie, Function Five Thrift Shop and Woofie’s Warehouse, and from a textile collection drive. Each garment was stitched together with fastenings and hardware such as buttons and carabiner hooks sourced from Plastify, a Singapore-born startup that has made recycled plastic waste its business.
All items will be available exclusively for sale on https://goodthreadsbymandai.sg/. All proceeds from the sale of Good Threads will go towards supporting wildlife conservation efforts in Singapore and Southeast Asia. Most of the items are already sold out, so fastest fingers first or watch out for the second and final phase of the Good Threads capsule launching on 8 March and 28 March 2024.
