Pantone Color of the Year: Mocha Mousse

At Pantone, the team quickly aligned on Mocha Mousse (17-1230) for its 2025 Color of the Year. "Mocha Mousse expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence," Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, tells House Beautiful. "It's not just indulging ourselves and treating ourselves, which we deserve, but also the possibility of sharing it with others."

The mellow brown exudes warmth, making it an excellent way to amplify comfort in any space—and that doesn't simply have to be through paint. Pantone teamed up with a handful of brands, including Spoonflower and Joybird, to create patterned wallpaper, sofas (as seen above), throw pillows, and more. And Mocha Mousse isn't just a feast for the eyes; Pantone also worked with Pura to launch a home fragrance called Mocha Moments for those who'd prefer to smell it instead.

Glidden Color of the Year: Purple Basil

Glidden paint by PPG's 2025 Color of the Year—Purple Basil (PPG1046-7)—is a case study in adaptability. The warm, deep purple boasts a neutral undertone, making it well-suited for both traditional and edgy interiors. "Consumers are embracing this time of change and movement, and we're seeing color trends reflect the need for dynamic colors, moving past the soft, more banal, safe color choices in favor of rich jewel tones, deeper earthen pastels and ancestral-inspired midtones," said Vanessa Peterson, PPG global color styling lead, in a press release.

Beyond walls and ceilings, Glidden recommends using Purple Basil to transform windows, doors, and furniture (particularly in an office). We can envision the color making a statement on kitchen cabinetry and bathroom vanities as well.
