Ethan Slater's Co-Star Lilli Cooper Is "Surprised" by Him Dating Ariana Grande: "An Interesting Coupling"
Apparently the internet at large isn't alone in being somewhat surprised by news that Ariana Grande is dating her Wicked co-star Ethan Slater. The actor's former co-star Lilli Cooper (who starred alongside him as Sandy Cheeks in SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical) was asked for her take on the pair by Page Six during the opening of The Cottage, and had this to say:
“I was surprised. I haven’t spoken to him in a while. It’s an interesting coupling, for sure, unexpected.”

Ariana and Ethan's relationship broke on July 20—which was apparently just a few days after he told his estranged wife Lilly Jay that they were dating. As one source put it to Us Weekly, “Ethan sat Lilly down a few days before the news broke about him and Ariana and said that he wanted a divorce. Lilly never saw it coming!” That said, another source added that “Ariana and Ethan weren’t careful. They’d hold hands on set in between takes. They were sloppy and not hiding it.”
Either way, Lilly was blindsided by news of the relationship, and aaccording to TMZ she feels like Ethan has "abandoned his family." A source tells the outlet, "It's understandable that emotions are high and it's hard seeing your ex move on, especially in such a public way, and her friends are trying to protect her. But Ari and Ethan are just trying to lay low and be respectful of their exes as they pursue this new relationship."
