Back in 2021, TikTok users—college-aged and otherwise—found themselves inundated with an unexpected viral sensation known as "Bama Rush." Made up of videos of young women participating in the University of Alabama’s sorority rush week—aka the week in which potential pledges (PNMs, or prospective new members, as they're called in some videos) explore the university's sororities and participate in official events—the videos developed a massive following. In the year since, so-called Rush Tok has become a bonafide trend, with fans tuning in to watch another year of rush this fall. So really, with so much attention, it can hardly come as a surprise that a documentary on the phenomenon is already in development.

According to a confirmation first provided to the New York Times, Vice Studios is working on a documentary on the subject, which is currently filming in Tuscaloosa, where the University of Alabama is located. The film is set to be directed by Rachel Fleit, and will provide a "thoughtful and compassionate portrayal of young women in 2022 as they rush the sorority system at the University of Alabama," Fleit said in a statement. The film has reportedly been in development since Bama Rush first went viral last year. Sources have told Variety that the film is under development for HBO Max.

Though production is currently underway, additional details as to the film's title or possible release date have not been revealed at this time. We will update this post with further details when more information becomes available.
