The second edition of Singapore’s iteration of Taiwan’s famous night market has gone online and been renamed as Digital Shilin Singapore. Touted as Singapore’s largest online festival, it will feature close to 100 local and regional digital pop-up stores, shining a spotlight on local business and artisans across the F&B, retail, and entertainment industries.

Moving online, though driven by current circumstances, addresses one of the biggest issues to plague Shilin Night Market Singapore last year—overcrowding. The average waiting time to enter the market as well as to purchase food was purported to be between 30-90 minutes. It’s a phenomenon driven by Singaporean’s love for anything ‘hipster’ or ‘imported’ as evident by similarly insane queues at Artbox (a concept imported from Bangkok) which attracted close to 660,000 visitors over six days at the Bayfront Event Space.

While it might be difficult to faithfully recreate the conviviality of a physical market, Digital Shilin Singapore promises to bring the same level of festivity to the online edition by taking advantage of digital technology such as live streaming, e-commerce, and food delivery from your mobile phone. Here’s what you can look forward to.
