Death in Paradise star Ralf Little has teased that Danny John-Jules is "welcome" to come back to the show whenever he likes after he exited the Caribbean-set series in the 2021 Christmas special.

Little, who stars as DI Neville Parker, took to Instagram Live while in the Caribbean to conduct a fan Q&A session. One fan asked him about John-Jules, who previously starred in Red Dwarf and played Officer Dwayne Myers in Death in Paradise.

"He came back for the last Christmas special and he was a legend. I used to watch Red Dwarf as a kid, so he's a real hero of mine. He's always welcome as far as I’m concerned, love him," Little said.

Elsewhere, Little revealed that shooting had already begun for season 13 of the hit BBC detective show, which was created by Robert Thorogood.

"We are halfway through episode one, we've got the Christmas special in the bag. I think episode one is very good and so is the Christmas special," Little said.

"I think it's going to be really great. Obviously, I can't give any spoilers, but the creative team has really pushed the boat out."

Previously, Little gave fans an update after he had finished filming the upcoming Christmas special.

"We wouldn't be able to tell you what happens in the series, obviously, and I mean we don't really know, do we? Our guess is as good as yours, but we are excited for it."

Death in Paradise and its spin-off, Beyond Paradise, air on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer.
