Datuk Ramli MS saddens over Tan Sri Ahmad Nawab's passing

26 Nov - Datuk Ramli MS recently admitted that he is truly affected by the news of Tan Sri Ahmad Nawab's passing, especially as it came soon after the loss of S. Atan.

The music maestro, who spoke to the media following news that the legendary musician and saxophonist has passed away, said that Ahmad Nawab was a mentor to him, and that he learned a lot from the musician throughout his four decades of career.

"I have yet to heal from the grief of losing my uncle S. Atan last week, and now he's gone too. It's shocking, of course. I knew him since the late '70s, maybe 1977 or 1978. And then I started working with him from 1982 or 1983," he said.

However, Ramli admitted that it'd been a while since he last saw Ahmad Nawab, but that he did contact the musician's son about him.

"He loved me. Whenever we made an album, he would give me presents. Clothes, ties, anything. He really cared for me," he added.

Tan Sri Ahmad Nawab passed away on 25 November at his home in Batu Caves after suffering from breathing difficulties. As the seventh Seniman Negara, the music maestro had composed more than 2,000 songs since the '50s and worked with various singing legends including Tan Sri P. Ramlee, Puan Sri Saloma, Allahyarham Datuk Sharifah Aini, Allahyarham Datuk Sudirman Arshad, Datuk Khadijah Ibrahim, Datuk Jamal Abdillah, Uji Rashid and Ramlah Ram.
