10 May - Datuk Awie recently expressed hope that people will not compare his directorial debut, "Rebel: Berontak Untuk Berotak" to other movies before it with similar theme.

The musician-turned-filmmaker, who spoke to the media about the Ben Amir-starrer, stated that he does not understand why some people kept comparing his movie with others that have a bigger budget and completely different storyline.

"Rebel is not a heavy action movie that is made with a multi-million budget. So, please do not kill my spirit to continue making movies," he said. "I have done my best with the limited budget that I had."

However, despite the feedback he received, Awie said that he will keep his spirits up, as he himself has experienced being in lots of movies, some a box office hit and some not.

"I have already planned on directing another movie through my production company in the future," he said.

As for "Rebel", Awie stated that he wanted to convey a good message to the audience, that nobody is born bad.

"People keep pointing fingers to these so-called bad people, but what made them? They can't just have been born bad. There must be a reason or situation that forced them to be what they are," he said.

The movie, which he also stars, has been released in theatres since 2 May. It co-stars MK K-Clique, Shiqin Kamal, Noralbaniah and Azlan Komeng among others.
