Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid and his fiancée Lauren Kyle are getting closer to tying the knot. Over the weekend, Kyle shared an Instagram Reel containing candid footage from her bridal shower.

She paired the video with a caption thanking the party's hosts, her mom and McDavid's mom. Thank you [Kelly McDavid and Sharon Kyle] for the most amazing bridal shower! It was more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. Feeling so loved!" she penned.

Celeste Desjardins, wife of Oilers player Leon Draisaitl, also shared photos from the event.

"The best night celebrating our girl. Lauren, you are so easy to celebrate. I am so lucky to be by your side through this very special time in your life. I’m counting down the days to watch you walk down the aisle. You are going to be the most beautiful bride. Love you," she captioned the post.

Ahead of their upcoming wedding, check out a timeline of McDavid and Kyle's relationship below.

2015: First date

McDavid and Kyle first met in 2015 thanks to Kyle's cousin, who played matchmaker.

"We were set up by my cousin and [McDavid's] teammate!" Kyle shared in an Instagram Story in 2023. "We went on a date eight years ago, and the rest is history."

Kyle made their relationship Instagram official in July 2016 with a sweet photo of the pair at a bar, where she kissed McDavid on the cheek.

She captioned the post with a pink heart emoji, signalling the hard-launch of her new boyfriend.

In 2017, the couple vacationed in Nassau, Bahamas. Kyle posted a selfie with McDavid, saying she "enjoyed the sun with this one."

That June, she also shared a photo from her birthday dinner, praising her beau: "Thank you to this guy who made my 21st so special. Love you!"

Kyle commemorated McDavid’s 23rd birthday with an affectionate post, writing, "Happy birthday to my babe! Love you to the [moon] and back. So lucky to have you in my life. Cheers to many more."

The couple announced their engagement in June 2023, with a carousel of photos from their surprise engagement.

"I cannot put into words how happy I am to be spending the rest of our lives together. Almost 8 years of growth, happiness and so much love and I can’t believe we have so much more to look forward to," she wrote on Instagram. "I knew you were my person from the day we met and I can’t wait for the beautiful life we are going to create together."

Kyle shared an Instagram Reel documenting her wedding dress shopping experience in New York City. The video featured her trying on various bridal gowns with different shapes, fabrics, sleeves, and necklines.

"NYC dress diaries: A sneak peek into my search for 'the one,'" she captioned the post. "So many dresses, but the perfect one is playing hard to get!"

In an interview with GQ, McDavid said that Kyle had been taking the lead on their wedding plans. "I've got to make sure that I've got my guys dressed, looking good and heading down the aisle on time," he said. "That's been my role so far. Maybe Lauren will ask for some help as we get a little closer. But so far, it's been easy."

In April, Kyle and her friends jetted off to her bachelorette party in Paris, France. Celeste Desjardins shared photos from the celebration, which included stops in Paris and Courchevel. The group, which included Alexie Andlauer (Ryan McLeod’s girlfriend), Rachel Yelena Gagner (Sam Gagner's wife), Francesca Vangel (Patrick Maroon's wife), and Sarah Nancsik (engaged to McDavid’s brother), had a blast, posing with masks of the groom-to-be and enjoying the Veuve Clicquot vineyard.

Desjardins captioned her post: "Paris — Courchevel. Day one of the trip of a lifetime with the most special girls." Nancsik added her own photos, captioning one with: "Cheers to our girl in Champagne!"
