Chow Yun Fat's wife opens up about unborn child's death

1 Nov – Jasmine Tan, wife of actor Chow Yun Fat, recently admitted that there is a reason why she and the actor have decided not to have children.

As reported on Epoch Times, Tan, who married Chow in 1986, shared in an interview recently that she was actually pregnant with a baby girl five years into their marriage.

She recalled that she was so close to the expected date, but one day found that the baby in the belly was strangely calm.

"I said to my husband, why is our daughter so good today? She hasn't kicked me. We both found the situation strange, so we rushed to the hospital for examination," she said.

That is when she found out that her unborn baby had died due to strangulation from the umbilical cord.

Although the doctor advised her to remove the baby via Caesarean, Tan, who had carried her child for nine months, said she decided to deliver the stillborn naturally.

Tan admitted she managed to catch a glimpse of her baby before Chow instructed the nurses to carry her away. She also stated that Chow did so as he didn't want her to have to go through another difficult moment.

She admitted that the two of them took years to overcome the grief, and that they decided – rather than try again for another baby – to do more for the society instead.

Over the years, Chow and Tan have been one of the most charitable power couples in Hong Kong. Aside from helping various charity foundations, they also agreed to donate 99 percent of their assets to charity after their death.
