Chinese studio threatens lawsuit against Liu Xiaoqing
13 Aug – Chinese film studio Phoenix Legend Films recently released a statement to remind other filmmakers that they have the sole rights to the story of famed writer Sanmao.
As reported on Epoch Times, the company issued a statement saying that there have been reports about other film companies that are in preparation to shoot a movie about the popular writer, and that Phoenix Legend should be the only studio that has the right to Sanmao's life story.
The studio also stressed that it reserves the right to protect its rights through the law against such infringement.
Phoenix's statement came after it was reported that veteran Chinese actress Liu Xiaoqing was supposedly producing and starring in a movie titled, "The Wandering Sanmao". It was also alleged that Liu was also currently casting male actors and was planning to film the movie in September.
Sanmao was a well-known Taiwanese writer from the 1970s who had written popular books like "The Stories of the Sahara" and "Gone with the Rainy Season". She died in 1991 at the age of 47.
