Chinese New Year 2025: 11 best catered feasts for the ultimate reunion dinner
Ah, Chinese New Year – one of the most important celebrations of the year for many, but if you’re like me, what you don’t appreciate at all is the stress from preparing for the event. Reunion dinners are amazing and all, but when you’re the one doing all the work, it can get too much.
That’s why we’ve put together a list of some of the best options to cater a reunion dinner that will impress your entire family… and that one super judgemental relative that we all have. You know who you are.
1. How’s Catering
Do you want to feel like royalty this Chinese New Year? Well, with How’s Catering, now you can dine like a royal in the Imperial Palace. Founded in 1991, How’s is an award-winning company that has become one of Singapore’s favourite caterers for thoughtfully designed sensory feasts. Their menu is inspired by cuisines from all around the world.
Constantly experimenting and designing new experiences, the “Hows of Design” is their proprietary method of expanding their offerings, and has resulted in their latest offering for CNY 2025: Palace Feast of Prosperity.
Their Chinese New Year menu offers a truly royal feasting experience, with modern twists using premium ingredients, ensuring you and your family feel like kings and queens. Vegetarian options are also available, using sustainably sourced ingredients that are also good for your health.
Enjoy the buffet at maximum freshness with the iHeat Mini Buffet, which features self-heating technology to warm up food in just 15 minutes. All you need to do is add water to the self-heating box and wait for it to work its magic.
Several sets featuring the iHeat technology are available. Each Mini Buffet is good for 10 pax and features 9 dishes:
Majestic Delight (S$298)
Royal Repast (S$398)
Palatial Indulgence (S$498)
Regal Harvest (S$338, suitable for vegans and vegetarians)
The Palatial Indulgence is the ultimate set, featuring dishes such as the Oven-Baked Free Range Kampung Chicken with Angelica Root is a comforting, delicious traditional dish. Whole kampung chicken is wrapped in parchment and foil before being baked to perfection. It’s then served with a savoury gravy replete with the goodness of Chinese herbs and Angelica root.
Another dish included is the Wawa Cabbage in Chicken Collagen Broth with 10-Head Abalone and Dried Scallop – a truly luxurious dish filled with tender abalone and generous slices of fresh cabbage. Available as part of the iHeat Mini Buffets, this can also be ordered à la carte.
For duck lovers, the Palatial Indulgence set also has Braised Irish Duck with Sea Cucumber & Chinese Flower Mushroom. Tender and succulent braised duck is paired with quality sea cucumber and mushrooms for a heartwarming addition to any reunion dinner.
A must-order à la carte item is the Golden Kampung Chicken with Baby Abalone & Mushroom (S$58+), featuring kampung chicken in collagen-rich pumpkin gravy with baby abalone, fish maw and jumbo lump crab meat. The pumpkin gravy is flavourful and packed with umami, and the chicken falls off the bone with no effort.
Lastly (but not least), the Palatial Indulgence set includes the sweetest ending: the Aiyu Yuzu Grass Jelly Dessert. This isn’t any ordinary dessert, though! You get to choose from different dessert bases like grass jelly or aiyu jelly, followed by various toppings such as taro balls, peach gum, red bean, sago, longan and boiled peanut. Finish off your customised dessert with a drizzle of milk for maximum enjoyment.
