Chan Ka Lam defends Sean Xiao over Worst Actor status

9 Jul – "The Untamed" director Chan Ka Lam set tongues wagging recently, when he suddenly went online to express his appreciation for an actor whom he worked with in the past.

As reported on MNW, the director posted a long message on Weibo saying that he met a lot of hard-working new talent on the set of a series that he filmed two years ago, but that one was particularly memorable for his great effort and big heart.

"He was very polite and humble. He would take the initiative to greet everybody when we started working every day. He would also [bid goodbye] to every crew member when we got off work," he said.

Chan added that they were working in the heat of the summer at the time, and despite having had to hang from a wire for a scene one hot sunny day, the actor in question soldiered on despite looking as if he was close of having a heatstroke. He also revealed that the actor was even injured in one scene but continued filming following his hospital visit.

"As an actor, he is worthy of being one. When he performs on stage, he is a worthy singer too. I filmed with him for more than four months from morning till night. Do you understand him more than me? Do you even know him? Have you ever met him before? Please be a good human being!" he added.

Although Chan made no mention as to whom he was talking about, netizens speculated that the director could be defending young actor Sean Xiao, who was recently named Most Disappointing Actor by the Golden Broom Awards, a Chinese equivalent of the Razzies in the United States, for his role in "Jade Dynasty".

The founder of the said awards, Cheng Qingsong claimed that Sean was not able to give the character personality and charisma, and lacked chemistry with his co-stars.
