Cecilia Yip joins jury panel for Firebird Award

7 Mar – Hong Kong actress Cecilia Yip has been selected as one of the jury for the 42nd Hong Kong International Film Festival's Firebird Awards Young Cinema Competition.

As reported on Mingpao, the "Peace Hotel" star who appeared at the press conference of the said festival held on 28 February, shared that there are eight films that will compete in the Young Cinema Competition, including entries from Japan, South Korea, and Iran.

"New directors really need as much encouragement and support that they can get," she said.

Cecilia is no stranger to judging movies. The HKFA Best Actress winner previously joined the judging panel for the Golden Horse Awards. However, she hopes to be as fair as possible even though there will be a barrier in terms of the different languages used in the international movies.

The winner of the Firebird Award will be announced on 2 April.

In related news, Jay Chern's "Omotenashi" and Maren Hwang's "Xiao Mei" have been selected to be the opening film for the HKIFF, which will begin its run on 19 March.
