Cecilia Cheung lends voice for Stephen Chow's "New King of Comedy"

23 Jan – There wouldn't have been Wan Tin Sau without Lau Piu Piu, which is why Stephen Cheung recently invited his "King of Comedy" co-star Cecilia Cheung to lend her voice for his new movie, "The New King of Comedy".

As reported on Mingpao, the two stars had a lot of fun working together in the recording studio, and even happily reenacted several scenes from the original film, including the popular scene where Wan Tin Sau tried to teach Lau Piu Piu how to act shy with her customer.

Asked why he invited the actress to provide her voice for the film, Stephen smiled and responded, "We are making "King of Comedy". If I don't ask her, who else should I ask?"

On the other hand, Cecilia shared that it has been a while since she last saw Stephen, and praised the filmmaker for still looking young and not weathered.

"The last time we met, my son Lucas was just three years old. He is 11 now," she said.

Cecilia also recalled that "King of Comedy" was her first movie ever, and that during that time, all she was concerned about was not giving her best for the movie.

Speaking about the new movie, Stephen shared that the story is all about the struggles of an aspiring actor working as an extra on a movie set.

"The story is similar to the original film that everybody knows. I think that the heroine in this movie is similar to me," he said.

Cecilia chimed in, saying that the new movie still retains many of Stephen Chow's trademark comedy and filming styles.
