Candice Chiu wants to play meatier roles in future dramas
19 May – While most actors would prefer playing villainous roles to further show off their range, TVB actress Candice Chiu stated that she is done with them and would like to challenge herself with other types of roles.
As reported on Mingpao, the actress who won Best Supporting Actress last year for her role as an evasive and insane mother in "Barrack O'Karma", shared that she is afraid of being stereotyped, after playing villainous roles several times in her previous dramas.
"Over the years, I have played girl-next-door, good girl, secretary, and villains. I want to challenge myself. I want to try and play a doctor, a strong female, or someone from the grass-root level," she said.
When asked the kind of characters she wants to play, Candice stated that she was in awe with Vivien Yeo's deaf character in "Brutally Young" and Vincent Wong's blind lawyer in "Legal Mavericks", and would love to try her hand with such roles.
"At the same time, I do feel lucky and grateful. I understand that opportunities are not always available," she added.
