When you think of cartoon characters from Japan, Hello Kitty comes up among the top few. And when most people think of Hello Kitty, they would associate it as a feminine character, or something for the ladies. Yet, in a YouTube video where Hello Kitty replies to comments from her fans, she wants to let her male fans know that it is totally all right to like Hello Kitty!

As part of the celebration for her YouTube channel’s first anniversary, Hello Kitty had many things she wanted to do…except she could not do them in time. So instead, Hello Kitty thought of conveying her feelings to everyone by replying to comments.

One of the comments read, “Please resolve the problem that people give weird looks to guys that love Kitty! Is it not okay for guys to like Hello Kitty?”

To which, the animated Hello Kitty’s reply is…

“It’s absolutely ok!”

The adorable cat character even attributed this societal norm to her lack of effort to shed her public image that she is only for women. She is even apologetic to her male fans if they are having a hard time because of this.

Hello Kitty said, “In the future, however, it would be nice if the world would become a place where everyone’s favourite things were not denied to them, regardless of their image. So, I’ll work really hard on that!”

The Hello Kitty YouTube channel is the official channel of Sanrio, the company to which Hello Kitty belongs. So we know that Hello Kitty’s male-friendly stance is official.

Such deep and mature words coming from a cartoon character seems a little surreal. But yes, wouldn’t it be great if this world could be a little more accepting and forgiving?
