Byung-hun & Tae-hee won't return for "IRIS 2"

31 Aug - While there may be talks about an upcoming sequel for the hit South Korean espionage drama "IRIS", it has been revealed that the original's lead stars, Lee Byung-hun and Kim Tae-hee, have confirmed that they will not be reprising their roles if it is true.

Koreaportal reported that on 24 August, Jung Tae-won from the "IRIS 2" production company, Taewon Entertainment, confirmed that both Lee and Kim will not be returning for the second instalment.

He stated, "There is no fixed schedule for when the drama will start filming or when it will air. The second instalment will be different from the original "IRIS" so Lee Byung-hun and Kim Tae-hee will no longer make an appearance."

Jung also confirmed that the roles for "IRIS 2" have yet to be decided and that Kim Hyun-jun, the original scriptwriter for "IRIS" will also not be returning for "IRIS 2". The drama will only start filming early next year, as the production team is currently busy working on the film "Marrying The Mafia 5".

The original "IRIS" starring Lee Byung-hun, Kim Tae-hee and Big Bang's T.O.P became a hit in 2009 with 39.9% in ratings.
