Butler Koffee moves to Havelock 2: Hidden spot with retro vibes serving speciality coffee & toasties
After I got to know that Butler Koffee finally chose to settle down at Havelock 2, I knew I had to pop in for a tasting. It’s been on quite a journey, moving from Kreta Ayer to Neil road and finally calling this spot it’s home. Its founder, Alicia Yap, aims to bring speciality coffee to the average Joe.
Although it’s just a couple of minutes walk from the MRT of one of the city’s most happening spot, Clarke Quay, you will easily walk past it unless you consciously search for it like I did. It’s quiet low-key, and that’s usually how I like my spots.
As I entered, I got retro, wanderlust vibes with its black and white photo wall, pictures from around the world with notes on them, and their bicycle-with-a-basket prop. My favourite decor was the brown, dry baby’s breath hanging from the top in a line, giving the whole cafe a warm and cosy feeling. They also have a small shelf with good reads to pick from, which is always a plus in my book, with pleasant pastel chairs and a comfy couch.
For drinks, I went for the obvious choice of their signature White Coffee (S$5.00). It was a bit too strong for my taste, but hard-core caffeine lovers would like it. I recommend adding some sugar if you have a sweet tooth like I do. I tried what’s simply called the Chocolate (S$6.00), both the iced and hot versions. Get the hot— it tastes like heated-up ice-cream in the best possible way.
For food, I ordered the Non-Kiap Croissant with Tuna, Ramen Egg, Cheddar (S$12.00) served with cassava chips on the side. First bite, and I was in love. Although a bit on the saltier side, you can only spot that if you’re looking for something to critique. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the cheese melted into the tuna. To round off my meal, I got the Burnt Cheese Cake (S$7.80) from Keong Saik Bakery which didn’t disappoint either. It was buttery smooth and appropriately sweet.
Other items that looked promising on the menu include their bowl of Granola options like Walnut Sour Cherry and Dark Chocolate, served with Greek Yoghurt (S$9.50). On the Kiap Toasties side, look out for the Parma Ham and Cheese Toasties (S$10.00). For a nice afternoon away from the city’s buzz to get your work done while munching on some good stuff, hop by to check this cafe out.
Expected damage: S$4 – S$16 per pax
