Bus-mad boy with autism given ride to school prom
A bus-mad boy's dream come true when he was delivered to his school prom in a double decker with his name on it.
Josh Reverill, 15, celebrated finishing year 11 with a trip in a First Bus vehicle after the company heard about his love of transport.
The teenager from Sheffield, who has autism, wants to become a bus driver and his mum Leander organised for the "personalised" bus to drop him off.
She said her son had been "obsessed" with buses since the age of two and had a wide knowledge of Sheffield's routes and timetables.
First Bus said: "It was a pleasure to surprise Josh by taking him to his prom in a South Yorkshire Transport livery bus.
"We knew we had to make this happen. Josh was beaming with joy and absolutely loved the experience, making a memorable entrance to his prom."
Josh said: "I just like everything about buses; the smell and the sense of the bus, the different types, the different variants and liveries; just the fact you're moving on something that's not a car."
First told Josh's family that providing the bus was not normally "something they would do" but that staff loved the "interesting and quirky" idea.
Although his parents knew to expect the double decker's arrival, they didn't tell their son in advance.
"We'd been taking photos of Josh and we were just outside having some family photos," said Leander.
"He was saying that there was a bus coming early; he knows all the times they're due. And then he was like, 'oh look, oh wow, it's got my name on!' "
Josh added that the experience was "brilliant".
His two younger siblings travelled to the prom with him, and their parents followed in their car.
The teenager even wants to buy a converted bus to live in when he is older.
