Bonnie Lai suspected of committing suicide
27 Dec – Former Hong Kong beauty queen and actress Bonnie Lai has recently passed away.
As reported on Mingpao, the former runner-up of Miss Asia 1995 was found unconscious at home by her husband in North Point with a pot of burnt charcoal briquette next to her.
She was confirmed dead after being rushed to a hospital.
The police did not find any suicide note at the scene. The cause of death has yet to be confirmed and is currently being treated as a suicide.
It is noted that prior to her death, Bonnie posted photos of a Christmas party attended by friends at her apartment.
Meanwhile, ex-husband and actor Kenneth Lo stated that he was shocked by news of Bonnie's death, as he picked up no strange behaviour from her the last time they spoke, which was two weeks ago.
Bonnie joined showbiz following her pageant stint, and made her acting debut in 1996. She had also starred in the third instalment of the "Young and Dangerous" franchise.
Married to Kenneth Lo in 1998, the two were divorced in 2006, with the actor having the custody of their two children. Bonnie then tied the knot with cosmetic surgeon Angus Hui, and had two more children with him.
She was 47.
