Bollywood releases to watch out for later this year

For all you Bollywood buffs who just can’t get enough of the action, romance, thrills, laughter, and music that Hindi cinema brings to us, here’s a list of the movies slated to release later this year and/or in 2021.

This release dates for this list may change depending on several factors like censor board directives and certifications, or other professional reasons.

Khaali Peeli

Directed by Maqbool Khan, the film stars Ananya Panday and Ishaan Khattar in this masala action film.

The film follows Ishaan, who plays a taxi driver and picks up a girl on the run (Ananya). What follows is a crazy, roller-coaster of a ride.

The film is scheduled to premiere on Zee Plex and ZEE5 on 2 October 2020.

Raksha Bandhan

Directed by Anand L Rai and starring the very popular Akshay Kumar in the lead role, Raksha Bandhan is set to release in early November, this year.

The film has been written by Himanshu Sharma, who can be credited for films like Tanu Weds Manu, Raanjhanaa, and Zero.

The actor took to Twitter, saying, "A story that touches your heart so deeply & so instantly, it’s the quickest I’ve signed a film in my career.” The actor cites the film as very special, thanks to Director Anand L Rai, and dedicates the film to his sister, Alka.

Black Currency

A film starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Minissha Lamba, Prashant Narayanan and Rituparna Sengupta in lead roles and directed by Sanjay Sharma is also slated to release later this year.

The film is an entertaining deep-dive into the economic malpractices in India. Arjun Singh, a RAW agent hires a gangster to work for him to expose the network who is bringing in fake currency to India. It also embarks on a lesson on measures to help stop these activities in order to clean up the money in India and stabilize our economy.

Hera Pheri 3

A much-loved and much-awaited comedy is back with the third film of the series, once again starring Suniel Shetty, Akshay Kumar, and Paresh Rawal; as Shyam, Raju, and Baburao, respectively, directed by Indra Kumar.

A lesser-known fact is that these films are a remake of the Malayalam films Ramji Rao Speaking and Mannar Mathai Speaking.

The series is now the twenty-ninth highest-grossing film series in Bollywood - numbers which prove how popular these films are with the masses in India.

In April, reports said that Indra Kumar had quit the project, and Priyadarshan (who directed the first movie of the series) is now back in the Director’s chair. The film is scheduled to release in 2021.

No Entry Mein Entry

Directed by Anees Baazme, the sequel to ’No Entry’, ‘No Entry Mein Entry’ will feature Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Salman Khan and Bipasha Basu in lead roles. Other smaller roles will be played by Lara Dutta, Arjun Kapoor, and Asin. India loves a good comedy, and this film could very well be a good release for our country, which is looking for a good laugh amid all the bad news that 2020 has brought!

Quoting the Director on what he borrowed from the original film, Anees Baazme said, “We have only borrowed the way we show the relationship between the husbands and wives. What stands out in that film is that every husband or wife who watched the film could relate to something or the other that the characters did. The women would think if their husbands are as good as Anil Kapoor’s character or as naughty as Salman’s. There was a lot of identification, and I made sure of it as a writer. So in the new film also, this thought is there. That’s all. Otherwise, it is a completely new film.”

The Big Bull

Another good one to watch out for later this year is The Big Bull. Directed by Kookie Gulati, the film features Abhishek Bachchan as the lead character, with Ileana D’Cruz and Nikita Dutta in supporting roles. The film portrays the financial crimes of Harshad Mehta, a stockbroker, over a decade, during the period 1990 to 2000. The film will be released on Disney+ Hotstar and not in theatres, owing to the COVID pandemic.
