Bianca Gonzalez mourns victims of Ateneo shooting

26 Jul – TV personality Bianca Gonzalez recently took to social media to mourn the victims of the recent Ateneo shooting.

As reported on PEP, on 24 July, Bianca, who is also the alumna of the Ateneo de Manila University, retweeted a post from Vice World News' Natashya Gutierrez, which read, "A shooting in broad daylight on the day of graduation - a day meant to be for celebration. For someone to feel they could get away with this... this is the culture of violence and impunity institutionalised and normalised in the Philippines over the years. Everything has an impact."

She then tweeted her own words, saying, "What happened on what should have been a day of celebration is disturbing and sad. Deepest sympathies to the loved ones of the victims. Hoping justice will be served."

Three people died in a shooting at a graduation ceremony that was held on 24 July, including former mayor of the southern Lamitan city, Rose Furigay.

Quezon City police chief Remus Medina said that the shooting appeared to have been a targeted assassination of the former mayor.

The two others that were killed were a campus security officer and Furigay's executive assistant. The suspect is now in custody.

The university cancelled the graduation ceremony after the shooting.
