The Best Room at ... Pendry Park City

Park City, Utah has any number of draws. The picturesque mountain town is, of course, a destination for skiers—the area has seen nearly 400 inches of powder this season alone—but it’s also home to the annual Sundance Film Festival as well as natural beauty that draws visitors across all four seasons.

And while plenty of the area’s best hotels are known for being close to great runs, it’s not catering to outdoorsy types alone that makes for a memorable stay. At the Pendry Park City, which opened in 2022, there’s no question that sporty guests are in for a treat thanks to proximity to the area’s best loved trails, but it’s the wider view that the property takes—with five top-notch food and beverage options, including a KITA, a Japanese steakhouse, and the relaxed and family friendly Disco Pizza, Spa Pendry, the Après Pendry lobby lounge, and plenty more to do even if you never step outside—that makes it truly special.

Here, general manager Richard Wales explains what makes the Pendry Park City stand out, and why guests—whether they’re skiers, movie fanatics, or just intrepid explorers—keep coming back.

What do you consider to be the best room at the property and why?

The Founder’s Residence has a prime location in the center of the hotel on the top floor. There’s an amazing balcony that brings you out, overlooking the pool and the plaza, with a view of Sunrise Lift; it’s probably the best view in the entire hotel. There’s also an amazing kitchen area to use for cooking your own meals or entertaining a party, amazing living rooms, and four bedrooms, including a bunk room for the kids.

How much does it cost per night?

About $4,995 a night in summer, and around $10,000 a night in winter.

How would you describe the guests and the vibe at the hotel?

We’re attracting a clientele that wants to stay someplace fun and exciting. We’re so close to skiing but there’s also convenience: you don’t have to leave the resort for five different food and beverage options, but it’s also a quick trip to Park City’s Main Street. When people come here, they really enjoy the resort.

What feeling about the city do you hope to impart to guests?

Because we’re the newest hotel in the Canyons [part of Park City] and we have the reputation we do for being focused on food, beverage, and ambience, we bring something different to the area. The other properties nearby have been there much longer than we have and offer a more traditional stay. Some are there just for their guests, but we want to be the place that feels like the center of the area. Even if you’re staying somewhere else, you want to come to the Pendry and be part of that experience. We open our doors to everyone; this is a place for people to come and enjoy themselves.

What is one thing about the hotel that you think first time visitors will find surprising?

The artwork we have is unique. It’s different than what people might expect from a resort with landscapes or skiing shots, and I see people walking around taking pictures of it. Also, the way we program the hotel. For example, the music and live entertainment at Après Pendry or the DJ at the pool house bring the hotel to life. This isn’t a traditional place to stay, it’s a place that makes you feel energized.

What’s a local attraction that you always recommend to guests?

I would say Utah Olympic Park. People drive past it but don’t always see it. If you visit, you get to learn the history of when the Winter Olympics were here, but you can also ride a bobsled. I haven’t been to any other places that give you the opportunity to do that, and also to watch athletes practicing on those jumps. It’s absolutely unbelievable and you can only get it in Park City.
