The “Date Night” Ritual That Keeps Ben and Erin Napier's Romance THRIVING

Though we might watch Ben and Erin Napier’s HGTV shows for their impressive renovations, we love to catch glimpses of their adorable relationship. Believe it or not, they’re college sweethearts and even recounted their first kiss on the season premiere Home Town Takeover.
“The night we went on our first date, we stopped at a gas station and he got a peach soda,” Erin reminisces. “Our favorite.” She proceeds to explain that the duo shared the soda and, as they were heading back to their respective dorm rooms, Ben asked Erin if he could kiss her. “That was our first kiss,” she notes. “It tasted like peach.”
Years after, after that peach-tinged smooch, the couple remains a partnership, whether it’s working together on renovations or championing each other’s personal pursuits. So how do they keep the love alive? “We communicate constantly,” Erin says in an exclusive interview with House Beautiful. “We’re very lucky that we are able to because we’re always together.”
But while the couple spends the bulk of their time together, they share that date nights are a rarity. “We love day dates,” Erin says. “If we get a little free afternoon, we’ll go just the two of us and have lunch somewhere. It’s a great time for connection when the nights are crazy when you have kids.”
Come evening, Ben and Erin say their schedules are booked with movies marathons, homework duty, and driving daughters Helen and Mae to ballet class. Date nights are more like family nights—and the couple says they wouldn’t have it any other way. After all, togetherness and relenting support for each other has been a key pillar of Ben and Erin’s relationship.
“At the end of the day, we love each other and we’re best friends," Ben shares. “Most of the time, people aren’t out to get you: They’re just out here surviving like the rest of us—especially, especially your spouse. We say the same thing all the time because we’re on the same team and we’re in this together." Just in case it was still up for debate, Ben and Erin are total couple goals.
