What I tried at Beach Road Kitchen
At Beach Road Kitchen, the team takes their seafood seriously, showcasing it in 3 distinct styles carefully crafted to unleash its full, delectable potential.
Seafood served on ice is a common sight among buffet establishments. But my jaw dropped when I realised that the restaurant actually has a Temperature Controlled Walk-In Cold Seafood Room— how cool is that?
You’ll first be greeted by the dozens of halved Boston lobsters and lobster claws. Look to your right, and an artfully-arranged row of Alaskan snow crab legs invites you to indulge.
There are also a bunch of other fresh seafood on ice like mini crawfish, black mussels, white clams, juicy half-shell scallops and fresh prawns.
There are also freshly-shucked oysters from Japan, which are available during lunch, brunch and dinner as well. It’s worth mentioning that besides lemon and lime wedges, there’s also shallot mignonette for the oysters.
Sweet and tangy with addictively-crunchy bits of shallots, it was a heavenly pairing when eaten with the fresh and creamy oysters.
Besides seafood on ice, you’ll also enjoy various sushi, sashimi, antipasti and a range of cheese such as Grana Padano, Murcia Al Vino and Camembert.
You can even take your cheese game to the next level by pairing it with pure honey flowing straight from a slab of actual honeycomb— wowza!
If your acute sense of smell is lured by irresistible smoky aromas, chances are they’re wafting from the Charcoal Grilled section. Here, a variety of fresh seafood and meats are grilled to perfection under the blazing charcoal flames.
During dinner and brunch, you can also get the chef to grill the Catch Of The Day for you, which is prepared a la minute upon order. Give it a spritz of fresh lemon, pair it with their in-house made Charcoal Salt or Chilli Salt, and taste the unparalleled freshness.
Satisfy your pasta cravings at their live pasta station, offering sauces such as pesto, tomato, and cream, tailored to your preferences.
If you’re seeking delicious baked seafood, juicy meats and house-crafted pizzas, then head over to the Italian Oven Counter.
We tried the Salt-Baked Whole Seabass. The chef gently peeled off the outer skin to reveal glistening, flakey flesh which was moist and absolutely delicious.
You can also witness the chefs hand-stretching the pizza dough and adding various ingredients atop, before baking them in a wood-fired oven right before your eyes.
We tried the Carbonara which was rich and creamy without being overpowering, topped with yummy pieces of bacon and an eggy centre. The Truffle was light and flavoured with earthy notes. The icing on the cake was the crust which was slightly chewy and had a great mouthfeel— I was obsessed!
For noodle aficionados, the Asian Counter allows you to customise your very own bowl with your choice of noods and ingredients. Choose between Laksa, Bak Chor Mee and Fishball Noodles, and let the chef perform his magic.
Our bowl of Laksa was filled with quail eggs, fishcake, tau pok, beansprouts and freshly-chopped laksa leaves (harvested directly from JW Garden).
One of the highlights was the Collagen Soup, brimming with pieces of fish maw and goji berries. I must admit, it was incredibly addictive; had I not been saving stomach space, I would’ve easily devoured more than two bowls!
The coconut rice at the nasi lemak section was visually stunning with varying shades of blue, dyed naturally from the homegrown blue pea flowers that are grown in JW Garden. Pair it with fried chicken, omelette, otah, achar, anchovies, peanut, and of course… sambal.
Save room for the iconic Singapore Chilli Crab, and don’t skimp on the gravy for dipping those crispy fried mantous.
What’s a buffet without a sweet ending? The Dark Chocolate Bread & Butter Pudding caught my attention and I dived straight for it. It was delicately sweet with a rich dark chocolate taste. Don’t forget to drizzle some vanilla sauce over it… it makes all the difference!
If you’re seeking something interesting, try the Coriander Lemon Tart which has grassy hints of cilantro infused into the cream. I was surprised by how well the flavour complemented the bright notes of the lemon. I also spotted a plethora of Nyonya Kueh and Gelato.
We also helped ourselves with the Yoghurt Soft Serve and topped it with a variety of condiments like Biscoff crumbs, nuts and raisins.
Both adults and children can anticipate the chocolate fountain, accompanied by an assortment of dried fruits, meringue, and chocolate for dipping enjoyment.
