As a child (plus, or minus a few decades) of TikTok, I find my attention span reducing majorly. Thus, I need multiple stimuli to keep me engaged during regular interactions. As if they heard my pleas, Hilton Kuala Lumpur introduced the Banquet of Hoshena. This extraordinary 3D immersive dining experience aims to revolutionise the way we dine at RM650 nett per pax for their Premium Menu. I must say I wasn’t prepared for the experience to immerse me the moment I stepped into the room but that’s exactly what happened. The galaxies of stars swirled, creating a mesmerising illusion of being out in the open. We were then guided to our seats by the attentive waiters who got us ready for the 8-course meal, the interactive dining journey I’d been anticipating all week.

After a couple of minutes, the whole place lit up and our attention was brought to the mannequin head where the “Queen of Hoshena” engaged us in storytelling, recounting the courageous adventures of her husband, the “King,” who embarked on a dangerous quest to rescue the people of Hoshena.

As the story progressed and reached its first intermission, we received our starter, the Anguria Stagionata e Formaggio Feta Speziato (Cured watermelon and spiced Feta Cheese), served in a picturesque little box. There was nothing better than the combination of fresh, sweet watermelon undercut by speckles of cheese— it was truly the best way to jumpstart our appetites.

The show then continued with various enchanting visuals and interactive movements where a fire beam was projected onto my arm. The power of suggestion is really something as I really felt my arm getting hotter as well!

The entrée that blew my mind was the Medaglione di Wagyu Australiano MB6, Spezie Speciali dello Chef e Verdure (Australian Wagyu MBS 6 Beef Medallion with Chef Special Spices, Highland Heirloom Vegetables). Besides looking exquisite, the Wagyu was cooked to perfection and simply melted in my mouth. The heirloom vegetables had a pleasant crunch that complemented the meat perfectly.

Our main dish was the Merluzzo Cileno in Camicia, Frutti di Mare Italiani, Beurre Blanc al Tartufo (Poached Chilean Black Cod, Italian Seafood and Truffle Beurre Blanc). This fish dish seemed basic and I was slightly apprehensive at first. Oh boy, was I wrong, the fish was sweet and cooked in such a way that it didn’t overpower other elements of the dish. The sauce was simple yet rich and tasteful.

At this point, I found it difficult to follow the storyline simply because I was mesmerised (and overstimulated) by the constant change of elements that was happening around me. Every once in a while, our plates would light up and start talking to us in an extremely trippy manner. I truly felt my childlike wonder returning with each changing scene.

Before dessert was served, we were given a Lemon Thyme Drop as a palate cleanser. The drink was normal but being served in a dropper and a glass that emitted clouds of vapour was anything but normal.

And finally, the showstopper— our dessert; the Sfera di Tiramisu (Chocolate-Gold Sphere, Espresso, Mascarpone, Amaretto di Sasshira, Savioardi). Personally, I’m a fan of edible bowls so I was already sold there. The tiramisu itself was light and creamy, coupled with a dash of bitterness from the espresso.
